On June 16, the ˇ§Old Architecture Collection Centerˇ¨ of NPUST invited German professional repair engineer, Professor Weilhammer Ulrich Thomas, a visiting professor from the Graduate Institute of Conservation of Cultural Relics in Tainan National University of the Arts, to deliver a keynote speech and to give an on-site demonstration of operation. He expertly described how to salvage wood structures and colored drawing of cultural relics. Our school knew by coincidence that the ancient temple, the Xin Hui Temple in Sinyuan Township, Pingtung County, was on the point of being torn down and rebuilt. Hereupon, the ˇ§Old Architecture Collection Centerˇ¨ was established in NPUST in October, 2007, to work as a place for collecting and preserving dismantled components. The Center invites experts to do the repair work, while studying the restructuring techniques in the hope of reproducing the historical cultural relics, prolonging their longevity of cultural continuation, as well as educating the next generation about the art connotations of the traditional architecture. |
